In this post, I’d like to share some of the top new PC-specific features, many of which have mobile implications as well, as I discussed in an earlier blog post about the engineering efforts behind Flash Player 10.1. Flash Player 10.1 for Android will be coming later this month – the beta release is currently available in the Android market. Today I’m thrilled to announce that Adobe Flash Player 10.1 is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. Throw in an improved buffering system which lets you pause, rewind and fast-forward streaming video and it seems to be worth the download – no matter what Apple say. The update patches the “critical vulnerability” that could cause system crashes and remote entry by attackers, and adds hardware-accelerated H.264 video decoding, better HTTP streaming that supports dynamic bitrates for live video streams – and support for peer-assisted video streams.
